With my patients I want to address the concerns that may not get addressed in a typical office visit – not just their blood pressure and blood count numbers. For me, medicine is more than that. I want to know who my patients are – what their experiences have been, what their lifestyles are like, what their activities and interests are. We truly try to practice excellence here, and knowing my patients helps me practice the best medicine possible.”

Dr. Thomas Jenkins with Exempla Denver Medical Associates in Denver. Colorado

Thomas Jenkins, MD

I want my patients to realize that I am there to be their partner in their health care. I want them to know that they’re always welcome, that they can be comfortable in my presence. I usually sit down with my patients, and we may talk first about what they’re doing or what their kids are doing because I’m interested in their big picture, not just their sore throats. It is a privilege to help provide care to our patients.”

As a physician, my yardstick concerning clinical decisions has always been ‘would I recommend this treatment or specialist to my mother, father, brother or sister?’ If we treat our patients the way we expect outside clinicians to treat our loved ones, this could be a much healthier nation.”

Dr. Eric Whittier with Exempla Denver Medical Associates in Denver. Colorado

Eric Whittier, DO

Ryan Community Health Center in New York, New York. Dr. Whittier is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

I find the most rewarding aspect of primary care medicine is building relationships with my patients through regular visits over the course of many years. Scientific studies have provided doctors with many guidelines to follow, but I recognize that each patient is unique and not all of these recommendations can be blindly applied to everyone. I enjoy providing my patients with information and working together to make decisions that best meets their needs and keeps them as healthy as possible.”
